From the beginning of time, anger and jealousy tore up the first family. Cain displayed an angry outrage toward his brother which culminated in his slaying of Abel. I dare say a lot of Christians today are beset with the same destructive emotion called anger. It's a huge part of our cultural problem today, however, the good news is there is a biblical, constructive way to resolve it and get set free.
How does anger start? Mostly, it originates from deep seated roots set in motion from one's background, whether it's disappointments, despair, discouragements; sexual or physical abuse; emotional hurt inflicted by others; parental or marital conflicts; being falsely accused; rejection; loss of expectations; and many more dysfunctions of life. Anger leads to hasty, irrational acts; speaking regrettable words; inflict pain on others and uncontrollable, instant aggression and a litany of health and mental problems.
Are you willing to find out why you get angry, what something inside that sparks a gush of angry emotions? The world's answer is justification - your personal rights have been violated or selfish pride or wanting to get your own way. Oh, just change your attitude and all will be well. Jesus says "be angry and sin not" and "don't let the sun go down on your anger." But how can one get deliverance! I John 1:9 is the answer - "confess your sin of anger to God and He will forgive you and cleanse you of all the anger roots harbored in darkness and deadly poison in your body deposited by anger emotions." To be honest, anger is an expression of who one is when sin has its way in one's life. Bring your anger and bitterness to the altar, be transparent before Him, asking Him for help in putting away permanently your sin of anger. And trust God to sort out all your messes arising from a life of anger and bring you peace.
Scripture: Ephesians 4:19 - God Himself said "He will help us put away all bitterness and wrath and anger...along with all malice."
Meditate: God has a way of "restoring the years that the locusts have eaten." God's providence and God's forgiveness is great enough to encompass all our sins and failures.
