Weekly Devotional: Moments with Our Master

For Those Seeking "Recovery and New Life"

Testimony of God's Faithfulness

As for me, life has been one series of "blows" after another. God, our Father, has worn out several hammers, putting me on the anvils of life. Born in a traumatic, emergency delivery; survived a horrific auto accident; had to wear high top corrective shoes in elementary; lost class president by one vote; high school team lost by one point in state playoffs; passed over in professional baseball draft in final round; survived a head-on collision; nearly drowned canoeing over rapids. Financially, my real estate business went bankrupt during the oil crisis. Divorced after almost twenty years and two children; remarried later only to lose my wife to a massive heart attack. Daughter became bitter after divorce, excluding me from her life for many years. Lost my dear father to leukemia at a fairly young age.

Afflicted with bouts of depression since my early forties and associated sleep deprivation; depression became critical after I retired, resulting in me being admitted as an in-patient at a mental health facility. Treated for a biochemical disorder, probably congenital; and much more. Wow! How does one overcome such personal chaos, disappointments, health/financial reversals, family loss, relational conflicts?

Life's twists and turns, ups and downs can cause one to dry up, become disengaged from life, sever connections to God's family and blow away in winds like a tumbleweed. Or, one can deepen one's spiritual roots in Jesus, re-build life on His solid foundation. Jesus is the only one who can provide recovery and new life. My recovery began when I decided to daily absorb God's Word, prayer and church fellowship, calling upon the grace of God for healing and deliverance. Listen, my physical and spiritual life began to flourish after I came to Suncreek. If you were to meet me today, I would tell you assuredly that I am a new person, the old has passed away, the new has come. Ask my wife. Know that Jesus will do the same for you! Just reach out to Him.
