Dear Suncreek Family,

Last week, Pastor Milton challenged us to stay attuned to the Bible and the Holy Spirit so that we can continue growing in holiness as faithful disciples.   One daily prayer you might want to use in your journey is the following “Canticle” from the Morning Prayers of the Northumbria Community as printed in the book Celtic Daily Prayer.

Christ, as a light,
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield,
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.

On the subject of prayer, I invite all of our members to spend a few extra minutes this next week in dedicated prayer for our schools, our teachers & our students.  If you are a parent or student, pray for your own school community.  If you are single, an empty-nester, or retiree, then pray for the school that is nearest to where you live.   Suggested prayers:  ask for the safety, nurture, and growth of all who enter the building.  Pray for the students to be instilled with a love of learning and to be respected & allowed to flourish as the unique individuals they are.  Pray for teachers, counselors, librarians, and other staff members to take joy and pride in their work, to be strengthened in body and soul for ministering to our precious young people, and to have patience and forgiveness when challenges or setbacks occur.  Pray for our administrators and school leaders to have wisdom and discernment in planning, decision making, and caring for the whole family.  Pray also for the parents of the students, that they, too, may continue growing and be strengthened and equipped for the work of creating safe, positive, and loving environments for their children at home.

That leads me to our annual Blessing of the Backpacks THIS SUNDAY (8/12).  Be sure to invite your friends & neighbors to join us in worship at 8:15 and 9:30!  Children are encouraged to bring their school bags to church and will receive a special gift from our children’s minister, Robyn Tschantz.  Teachers, administrators & other school staff members will also be recognized and prayed over so that everyone can get a great start on this new school year
