History

The choir was started in early 2005.  We took our first-ever concert tour in May/June 2005.   In the Fall of 2005, we began to to provide the primary music leadership for the 8:15am Sunday morning worship. In late October 2005, we presented the musical: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  We presented a Broadway Review during 2006.  Our Summer 2006 Concert and Missions Tour was to Washington, DC and New York, NY. In the Spring of 2007 we presented the musical Oklahoma.

Our Summer 2007 Concert and Missions Tour included travel to Chicago. We sang at the 2007 North Texas Annual Conference for the United Methodist Church. In the Fall of 2007, we offered a Musical Revue Variety Show. On February 22, 23, 29 and March 1, 2008, we presented the musical Once Upon a Matress.

In 2008, Middle School members of Cantate completed their first-ever Middle School Summer Missions and
Concert Tour
. We had the opportunity to minister to residents of a retirement home in Norman, OK and delighted congregations in Edmond and Tulsa, OK and Hot Springs, AR. In addition to concerts in local churches, we also spent an afternoon at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank where they processed over 5,000 pounds of food that will provide over 4,000 meals for homeless shelters and food pantries throughout Oklahoma.

2008 Czech Republic Tour

Our Sr. High Cantate members departed in late June 2008 for the Czech Republic. A total of 29 youth and 8 adults participated in the tour. Concerts were presented in the towns of Litomerice, Tachov, Karlovy Vary, Plzen, Prague and Sedlcany. The fledgling UMC congregations in the Czech Republic are desperately in need of the ministry that Cantate can provide. Christians in the Czech Republic have a strong sense of isolation and need to feel that they are a part of the worldwide Christian community.
