Chancel Choir
Wednesday, 7:30 – 9:00 in Palmer Hall

Our Chancel Choir is rapidly developing into an ensemble of musical and spiritual excellence. They provide musical support for the 11:00am service on a weekly basis and rotate through the 8:15am and 9:30am services periodically. In addition to their service responsibilities, they provide choral music for seasonal services (e.g. Christmas Eve, Good Friday, All Saints Sunday, etc.) and present other musical programs throughout the year.

A particular highlight of this year’s Advent season will be the presentation of the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in December. The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is modeled after the service that is presented annually on Christmas Eve at King’s College, Cambridge, England.

There is no such thing as a choir that is too big. There’s always room for more! Join this dynamic group for rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:30pm in Palmer Hall.

Worship Team
Thursday evening

The Worship Team provides musical leadership at the 9:30am Sunday Worship service.  They are an ensemble of talented singers and instrumentalists that lead the congregation in the
contemporary songs of our faith.   You may contact them at WorshipTeam@suncreekumc.org.

Grace Notes Handbell Choir
Wednesday, 6:30 – 7:30pm in the Sanctuary

Our adult handbell choir is named Grace Notes.  It regularly plays during Sunday Morning Worship Services.  Depending on the number of people interested in ringing this year, we will very likely expand from our one Grace Notes handbell ensemble and form a second group. Call the church office or e-mail Rev. Kevin Holland for more information.

Adults: Do You Play an Instrument?
If you play an instrument and you are willing to share your talent with the church, contact our Minister of Music .  We are always looking for talented musicians who want to be part of the Suncreek UMC Music Ministry Team.

Angel Choir (K-1st grade)
Sunday, 9:30am in Room B108 and 9:45am Room B113

This is our youngest group of choristers and is primarily a preparatory group. Choir activities occur for about 10 to 15 minutes of the Sunday School hour. The remainder of the hour is spent on the weekly Sunday School lesson. While Sunday morning responsibilities as a choir are minimal, these children begin to learn about worship and what is expected of them when they sing in a worship service. The musical focus is on finding the true singing voice, increasing the singing range, learning to match pitch, and exploring rhythm. Music literacy readiness activities based on manipulative games create an enthusiasm for future musical growth. Julie Highley is the Director of this choir. If you have a First grader that you feel is ready for more, then sign them up for JAM choir on Wednesdays.

JAM (Jesus & Music) Choir (1st-3rd grade)
Wednesday, 4:45 - 5:30pm in Room
B108

At this age, children are ready to begin a regular pattern of participating as a choir in worship, which they will do every six to eight weeks. Musical skills are expanded upon, with beginning emphasis on transferring rudimentary notation to the written page. Time is also given to improvisation with the Orff instruments, movement exploration, and the use of hand signals as a means of learning to sight sing.
Julie Highley directs this choir.

Solid Rock Choir (4th-5th grade)
Wednesday,
4:45 - 5:30pm  in B114

More intensive vocal challenges and worship responsibilities are introduced at this age level. They sing in worship every four to six weeks. Increased emphasis is placed on learning musical terminology and literacy development with the goal being usable sight singing skills. The voice is ready for more challenging repertoire and the ear is ready for some part singing. Work with the Orff instruments and the use of hand signals continues.

This choir is the culmination of the work of the graded choir program. They perform an exceptionally broad range of choral music ranging from the classics to contemporary. World Beat - African Drumming and Orff Ensemble ( 6th-12th grade)
Tuesday, 4:45 – 5:30pm in Palmer Hall

This is one of the most unique and fun things that we do in our Music Ministry. This group focuses on music from around the world with particular emphasis on various musical forms from Africa, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. We’ll expand the repertoire of the group this year and do some amazing things with drums and other percussion instruments. This ensemble is already gaining a reputation throughout the entire metroplex and has been invited to play at other churches and events in the DFW area.

Gloria Ringers (Intermediate Youth Handbells, 6th -8th grade)
Tuesday, 4:00 – 4:45pm in the Sanctuary

Our Youth Music Ministry is growing so rapidly that we have not one, but two handbell ensembles.  Handbells are a wonderful musical outlet and are especially appealing to students who have instrumental (band or orchestra) experience.  In addition to regular worship participation, both handbell ensembles will have opportunities to participate in retreats and festivals and will also participate in the Summer Youth Concert and Missions Tour.

Alleluia Ringers (Advanced Youth Handbells, 9th-12th grade)

Tuesday, 5:30 – 6:30pm in the Sanctuary

See information above under Gloria Ringers.

Instrumental Ensemble (7-12th grade, minimum of 1 year of playing experience)
Rehearsals TBA

We have many band and orchestra students in our church who need an opportunity to play their instruments (brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion) to the glory of God.  Please contact
Rev. Kevin Holland if you are interested in being a part of such an ensemble.

April Fool's Fest
April 2009

April Fool’s Fest is an annual church-wide talent, er, Variety Show! The 2009 show will be the 10th year of this event.  It is coordinated by members that are active in the church’s music ministries. Tickets are sold in advance and proceeds are used to buy items that enhance our music ministries, like instruments. Start planning your act and buy your tickets early! Get ready to laugh and to enjoy an evening of fellowship. For additional information, send an e-mail message to AprilFoolsFest@suncreekumc.org.

Sanctuary Organ

We installed a three-manual, digital organ in November 2005. Thanks to the generosity of many in our congregation, the addition of an organ has opened up many new and exciting opportunities for enhancing our worship experience. Our choirs have benefited, our congregational singing has improved, and we are enjoying a broader palette of sound colors to enrich and enliven our spiritual journey.
